Psychoanalytic therapy is often maligned but it remains for me one of the few treatments that seeks to address the innermost, often hidden, parts of ourselves. Psychological symptoms are not only a source of suffering, they are also a message that speaks to desires, conflicts, and pain that comes alive when spoken to a professional listener. The flip-side of anxiety is always a passionate dream that has not been encountered as such. The intimacy of speaking and listening is rare and a gift.
My name is Fiona, and I have nine years of experience providing supportive counseling. Early in my career I had the opportunity to work at a hospital and speak to people undergoing treatment for cancer. I was struck by their resiliency in the face of challenges and learned the importance of creating a safe space for people to process their experience and be vulnerable. I went back to school and have worked as a clinical social worker in a hospital setting ever since.
Real support for real life, wherever you are in your journey.
As an LCSW with more than a decade of experience, I work with adults who are navigating anxiety, depression, and life's inevitable turning points. Outside the office, my life is full with my small children and energetic puppy. I share that because I understand, firsthand, how full and unpredictable life can feel, and how hard it can be to carve out space just for you. That's exactly what our time together is for.
I have a transpersonal & relational background in therapy. I graduated with honors from Adelphi University and went on to earn a second masters from Brooklyn College in mental health counseling. After graduating I trained for 6 years at The Institute for Contemporary Psychotherapy in their Psychotherapy Center for Gender and Sexuality (PCGS). One of my specialities is working with GLBQ and trans/nonbinary individuals, and I have helped many adults of all ages successfully transition genders.
I have always been a hard worker. I was diagnosed with Adult ADD and medication and therapy has changed my life!
At some point, we all experience tough times. Coping skills falter, feelings intensify, and we can't see the way forward. If this is where you find yourself, I can help. I work with clients navigating unexpected events, life transitions, or simply a “rough patch”. My approach is welcoming and compassionate. We sort things through together. You’ll find that coping skills improve, emotions become manageable, and you understand yourself better. Most importantly, you’ll regain a sense of hope and wellbeing.
